Dr . Khalid Sohail’s book, The Next Stage of Human Evolution is a collection of essays on science, psychology and humanism and a thematic extension of his previous book titled, From Islam to Secular humanism, a Philosophical Journey. In this new book he discusses how biologists like Charles Darwin, psychologists like Sigmund Freud, sociologists like Karl Marx, and philosophers like Jean Paul Sartre, in the last couple of centuries, have laid the foundation of secular science and psychology. He emphasizes that to understand human evolution we need to focus on the development of the human mind alongside the human body.
          Dr. Sohail is of the opinion that humanity is at a crossroads. Human beings have a choice. They can follow the path of harmony and peace or the road of violence and war. For the first time in history, human beings are able to commit collective suicide by nuclear weapons. He thinks humanity is passing through adolescence because only during adolescence, are children psychologically sophisticated enough to kill themselves. As they mature and become responsible adults, they learn to live peacefully with themselves and other human beings. For humanity to grow to the next stage of evolution, human beings need to develop the 3 Cs: Critical Thinking, Creative Imagination and Compassionate heart.
